Clark Wold starts his own firm that would later become Wold Architects and Engineers. He establishes the core approach for Wold on three goals: highly satisfied clients, distinguished architecture and sound business practices.
The first office is located in the EcoLab tower, a downtown St. Paul building, designed by Clark Wold.
Five Hawks Elementary (Prior Lake, MN) is designed. The facility is Wold’s first new school in the Twin Cities metro area and is designed with an open school plan composed of pods and relocatable walls.
Ramsey County Jail receives National AIA Honor Award.
Hill City K-12 School (Hill City, MN) receives Walter Taylor Award for Excellence with its passive solar energy systems and earth sheltered design.
The Minnesota Department of Administration (Brainerd, MN) receives a Minnesota State AIA Honor Award.
Clark Wold retires, transitioning the firm to its second generation of leadership: Kevin Sullivan, Michael Cox and Norm Glewwe. The three leaders focused on developing expertise in specific market sectors.
Wold starts the historic renovation of the City of St. Paul City Hall and Ramsey County Courthouse. The project later receives a Minnesota State AIA Honor Award and Heritage Preservation Commission Award of Recognition (1994).
To better support clients, engineering expertise is added to the design firm. “Wold Architects and Engineers” becomes the new name reflecting the firm’s collaborative in-house services.
Wold’s diversification strategy expands the firm to the Chicago, Illinois area.
Wold continues to grow and opens an office building in Denver, Colorado.
Cox, Glewwe and Sullivan successfully transitioned the leadership a third time to Scott McQueen, Dan Kritta, Roger Schroepfer and Vaughn Dierks. The new leadership team continues to grow and build the firm developing an even more robust planning process.
As Wold continues to grow, the next generation of leaders are added to the team. The expanded leadership team helps foster significant growth in all market sectors.
Wold designs George W. Gibbs, Jr. Elementary School (Rochester, MN), earning its first LEED award for sustainable design.
With Wold’s help, Idalia Schools (Idalia, Colorado) achieves an 87% bond passage rate—the highest school bond passage rate in Colorado.
Recognizing synergies in the healthcare market with the firm’s public sector clients, Wold adds healthcare and senior living expertise to the firm by acquiring Horty Elving in 2014.
Wold Illinois team expands to deliver an even higher level of services to the area through the acquisition of Ruck Pate in 2017.
Wold celebrates its 50 year anniversary. The firm continues to practice the core principles established by our founding leadership: highly satisfied clients, developing future leaders, focused market sectors and a unique approach for each client.
In partnership with HFR, Wold adds office buildings in the Nashville and Jackson, Tennessee areas to better serve the South Eastern region of the U.S.
Wold becomes a signatory member of the AIA 2030 Challenge for sustainable design initiatives.
