In honor of Women’s History Month, Wold Architects and Engineers is celebrating several women leaders on our team who are paving the way for others. Throughout the month, we are asking the women of Wold important questions on their unique experiences as a female in the architecture, engineering and design industries and at Wold.
In our third installment of the series, principal planner Tu-Anh Bui Johnson (Associate AIA, NOMA, LEED AP, BD+C), shares how Wold supports the growth and development of women, the impact she is making in her role, and how her mom has influenced her career. Tu-Anh has spent the last 8 years collaborating with clients and stakeholders to inspire creative results and lead the design of healthcare and senior living facilities across the state of Minnesota.
Tell us about your current role and how you’re making an impact.
My formal title is healthcare and senior living planner, but I’d like to think that my role is a listener and facilitator of conversations. I particularly have a soft spot for the renovation projects surrounding healthcare and senior living spaces. It’s always rewarding to hear from our clients that our work transforms their physical environments while also improving quality of life for their patients, residents, and staff.
Can you share an example of what Wold is doing in the workplace to support the growth and development of women?
The quality speakers that our corporate team and Women In Design (WID) team have brought to our firm is impressive. The speakers have provided us with a glimpse into their successes, as well as lessons learned throughout their careers.
Based on your experience prior to Wold, how would you say our approach differs from other firms?
Our firm’s approach to leadership and mentorship revolves around each team member's strengths and skill set, not a predetermined mold or mindset. One of our core values is to learn every day, and that resonates with me and so many others at Wold.
