In 2014, Wold Architects and Engineers were hired to help the City understand their long-range needs for various city departments. After the space needs assessment, it was clear that improvements were needed for the police department, which was their first priority. The police department had outgrown their 1990s vintage police station, and with growth in the department, the facility no longer met their needs and was ineffective for modern police operations. Along with improving the police department, it was determined that adding amenities to the city hall that included additional meeting spaces, improvements to the community rooms, and accessible restrooms would meet other city hall departments' needs for the next 10-15 years.
Faced with an increased demand for police operations, the design first focuses on addressing space and organization issues in the police department. The solution modernizes the police department with collaborative office environments, efficiently reorganized department space, updated evidence processing, and proper police vehicle storage. The design incorporates dedicated space for tactical vehicles and expands and improves evidence processing and storage. To improve the construction timeline and to maintain public access, the police department moved into temporary quarters in the city hall. The work started in the summer of 2017 and was completed in the spring of 2018.
