With a commitment to abandon their existing, deficient make-do facility and the ever-increasing need to provide modern, relevant police officer training, the St. Paul Port Authority and the City of St. Paul came together to develop a new Public Safety Training Facility.
This facility aspires to create a positive identity for the police and connect the nearby St. Paul Police headquarters' culture with a state-of-the-art training facility. The training facility includes office space for training division staff, locker rooms for staff and cadets, two lecture classrooms, a reconfigurable scenario-training suite with movable walls and a multitude of simulated environments, and a 12-lane firing range used for training and certification.
The training facility serves as the base for an on-going, in-service training for St. Paul officers; for a 17-week long police cadet session to train recruits; and a professional development institute for continuing education seminars available to St. Paul Police Department (SPPD) and outside agencies. The SPPD has long taken pride in providing its cadets and officers with a high level of training to ensure public safety and community connections throughout its force. This facility offers St. Paul Police's capacity to make sure that this training is the best possible.
