Greencroft Communities in Goshen, Indiana, started as a Master Plan to study options to create households and support culture change with all private rooms.
This involved an assessment of the existing buildings to determine suitability for households and updated rooms. Four options with varying degrees of renovation were developed to study different ways to accomplish the change through the phasing of construction and costs for all 240 residents. The options allowed for flexibility in future phases to change based on cost and need at the time of the phase.
For this project, we successfully petitioned the State of Indiana to approve our “better than accessible” resident grab bar design that improves the lives of both residents and staff in long-term care. This design consists of two swing-up grab bars on both sides of the toilet.
With our experience and innovative approach to senior living design, we continue to push state jurisdictions for updates in code requirements for grab bar and other transformative change in the nursing home codes.
