After passing a referendum in 2018, Northfield Public Schools hired Wold to work with them on all of the projects, including a new 750 Student Elementary.
The building itself was to replace the existing Greenvale Park Elementary which would be converted to Early Childhood programming, but both would share the same site. This meant the new site design needed to accommodate twice the stormwater management and separate public, bus, and staff vehicular traffic effectively between the two buildings.
The building design focuses on flexible learning environments through a pinwheel design of clusters. Each is designed for future expansion to accommodate District growth as needed. Specialist and community spaces are located adjacent to the main entry, while the gym and cafeteria are designed to host evening and weekend activities beyond the needs of the Elementary programming. The building also features a secure entry sequence and zoned secure control to facilitate after-hours access or emergency operations.
