Hermantown Community Schools was leasing space in an inadequately sized and arranged space for early childhood and other community education programming. It was also the only facility not located on the district’s campus of buildings with the elementary, middle/high school, hockey arena and district office.
Wold designed a new Community Learning Center that provides space for preschool, early childhood family education (ECFE), early childhood special education (ECSE), and headstart programming as well as office space for traveling staff, itinerant staff, and community education leadership. The building is arranged to promote use of the facility throughout the entire day, including community education classes in the evenings. HCLC is situated on the district’s campus to promote collaboration of shared-use facilities with the elementary school.
