In 2016, FirstLight Health Systems wanted to provide a facility for not only patient rehabilitation but also community wellness as a means of encouraging a healthy lifestyle through activities. In order to accomplish this, they approached Mora Public Schools to explore the options of working together. The result was a joint-financed and operated Community Wellness Center.
Built as an addition to Trailview Elementary School, the wellness center features a dedicated community entry to allow use during the day without compromising school safety. The facility features offices, fitness rooms, locker rooms, and an elevated walking track for FirstLight and the community, and a four-station gym, indoor running track, and lobby with concessions for the School District. The building is a great example of how collaborative partnerships can serve to broaden the goals of all and strengthen communities in the process.
