Due to capacity issues and a growing enrollment, for a number of years the entire sixth grade would spend over half of their day in the Central Education Center and the other half in the middle school.
Additionally, early childhood was outgrowing their own building, and the oldest building in the District, the 1917 original school, was continuing to have significant physical issues. A solution to the problems of multiple programs was needed. By placing an addition on the middle school, the sixth grade was able to relocate entirely back to that building. Originally designed as an open floor plan, the building had received facelifts in the past but was unable to accommodate the entire sixth-eighth population.
Wold worked with the city to explore creative approaches to setbacks and provide a flexible studio addition at the face of the building. Office locations were relocated to the main entry to create a secure facility and consolidate functions. Community resources were also expanded through an additional gymnasium and weight room.
