Wold developed and led an in-depth community engagement process to gain consensus and create fresh ideas for the future of Berkeley D87. Collaborating with D87 on an extensive Educational Alignment Study and Long-Range Planning efforts, the District and Community supported the need to add an addition and renovate Riley Intermediate School and Northlake Middle School.
After the successful referendum in March of 2020, Wold engaged the community to define the key goals of the project, which included creating a community and campus link between the two school buildings and blending the buildings and the addition to feel unified while creating an exciting learning environment for students and teachers alike. The addition of the project includes a shared program space that provides grade-appropriate centers that allow for exploratory program offerings like Science, Math, and STEM. The media center and learning commons will offer multi-use flex spaces for student workspace and/or staff office space. Further, the project includes updates to the cafeteria and gym with options for use during off-school hours.
