In 2016, Roselle School District 12 passed a referendum that included funding for new infrastructure and classroom improvements. Roselle educators took this opportunity to not only improve their two schools HVAC, site and health life safety needs for the next 30 years, but also future-proof their learning environments. The focus was spaces that prepare students to be engaged, collaborative, and navigate their own learning.
Flexible learning was achieved through adaptive reuse of all rooms with flexible furniture, multi-zone teaching, technology, and interior finish renovations - creating individual, small group, and large group spaces. The learning resources center became a 21st-century learning commons with STEAM lab and makerspace. Transformation took place in school culture by celebrating learning, flexible choice and access to support multiple styles of learning, and encouraging the use of shared resources.
