With exponential growth within the Shakopee School District and the addition to the high school, adequate space for athletics and activities became one of the priorities. As a result, Shakopee’s existing varsity stadium required expansion to accommodate the growth and address maintenance needs. A new artificial turf playfield was added, complete with District branding. Several other branded signs and colors were added throughout the stadium to ensure that school spirit was present. Along with the turf, an updated track surface was added, complete with field activities including the shot put, long jump and high jump.
Because the stadium was originally built into a hillside, a fan plaza was added at the top of the hillside to create a gathering space for patrons entering and exiting the stadium. Additional new amenities were added within that plaza, including a new concession stand, new ticket building and a new school store. For use by athletics teams, a new team room and storage building was added at the field level. To complete the project, Wold expanded the bleachers to accommodate more fans, added new stadium lighting, designed a new press box, and added a new parking lot for stadium visitors.
