ISD 622 passed a bond referendum in 2019 to update all of the District's facilities to accommodate projected enrollment, improve safety and security, and create learning environments aligned with programmatic practices. At Tartan High School, the referendum scope included major additions and renovations to construct a new classroom tower to provide adequate space for 1,800 students, media center addition/renovation, a secure entry, and demolition of aging parts of the building.
The existing gymnasium is being converted and expanded to a two-story student union that will be used for gathering, dining, and learning throughout the school day at the center of the school. A three-story classroom addition on the north side of the building will be created. The athletics and activities functions of the building will be supplemented with a two-station game gym and two-station auxiliary gym as well as weights, fitness, and black box/“opportunity” space additions. The site was redesigned to better support vehicular and pedestrian traffic patterns, with a separation between pick-up and drop-off and buses.
Wold worked closely with the District to ensure the designs provided equitable opportunities for students and staff between the District’s two high schools.
