Wold worked with the Village of Buffalo Grove to complete a Village-wide space needs assessment for all facilities. The study identified the need for a new public works facility as the Village’s top priority, and Wold worked with the Village to evaluate multiple
existing warehouse facilities for potential adaptive reuse. Ultimately, a 170,000-square-foot warehouse facility was identified as the preferred location for Public Works operations. Design began upon closing on the property in 2022. The fully renovated facility includes new team rooms for each division/section, a drive-through vehicle storage garage capable of accommodating their entire fleet of vehicles and equipment, nine fleet maintenance bays, central supply storage, and two wash bays. A multi-purpose training room will also serve as the Village’s Emergency Operations Center. A new salt dome and material storage bins will be constructed on the site.
To accommodate current and future demographics within the workforce, the locker rooms were planned to accommodate non-gendered use by including single-occupant toilet rooms and private changing/shower amenities.
