Winner Regional Healthcare Center’s relationship with Wold began when hospital leadership was frustrated with their recently completed master plan. The plan was out of alignment with the hospital's vision and did not align with their long-term financial goals as an organization. Winner’s leadership team reached out to their network for advice on finding the right planning partner and they were led to Wold. Our team partnered with hospital leadership and staff, their financial planning partner, the owner’s representative, and the construction manager to collaboratively develop a new master plan that reorganized their facility around their outpatient care platform, maximized the functionality of their existing facilities and managed scope to meet the long-term financial goals required for Winner Regional Healthcare Center to make this critical facility investment.
The project outcomes focused on creating a new outpatient and emergency care center that included a primary care clinic, emergency care area, a consolidated imaging department, and a same-day surgery suite designed to maximize throughput for the specialty clinic providers. This new addition also provided a new central utility plant to serve the hospital and outpatient care center, as well as updating the technology infrastructure for the campus.
Upon completion of the outpatient care center, the existing hospital was reorganized and renovated to refresh the patient and family experience, create a community and staff education center, and update the original nurses' station that had not been modified in decades. These impactful changes to the existing campus facilities will extend the useful life of these facilities for Winner Regional Healthcare Center.
The materials selected for these improvements tied into local landscape features of the area, including the agricultural fields, nearby river valley, and the local vegetation to provide a familiar feel for the community members visiting the campus. Overall, the new and updated healthcare campus provides an enhanced patient and family experience, a more attractive care teamwork environment, served with modern mechanical, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure to meet the current and future needs of this West River community in South Dakota.
